Tommy Hooker

Born in 1953 in Arkansas and raised in Pecos, Texas, Tommy Hooker already had roots in music. Tommy was taught by his brother Dwight at a young age to play guitar and began performing. Tommy’s interest in the music just began to soar. In 1967, Tommy formed his own band, The Persuaders, and began performing at local community events. He continued to play in his brothers band (The Bunch) at Sul Ross University where his brother attended.

By 1971, Tommy was playing with several bands, Texas Express in Monahans, Tx, Country Squires, in Fort Stockton, Texas, and Country Night Riders in Alpine, Texas, just to name a few. His love of the real country sound only grew. In 1973, he and Dwight formed The Hooker Brothers Band with best friends Bob (steel) and Ann McDaniel and Sharon Jay (drums). In 1976, Tommy moved to Dallas where he continued to play in a trio at a small club called the Bar None. In 1981, upon the death of Tommy’s brother Dwight, he once again joined forces with Bob McDaniel and Sharon Jay, plus, Bill Morris and Don Tolle and was now called the Tommy Hooker Band. This group played throughout west Texas.

Tommy also spent time with Craig Carter and The Spur of the Moment Band. Upon the arrival of the 90’s, Tommy moved to Oklahoma where he played the steel and bass with many groups including The Cliffhanger Band, The Trailblazer Band, Ken Collins Band and several others. In 2002, Tommy arrived in Fort Worth, Texas. He surrounds himself with great musicians and has made music his full time career.

Tommy has shared the stage with such legends as Leon Raucsh, Darrell McCall and Hank Thompson, to name a few!  He has three CD’s out, Texas In My Soul, Blue Smoke and Texas Honky Tonk Favorites; they are a refection of his talents and roots. He is a regular act at Pearls Dancehall and Saloon in the Fort Worth Stockyards and he packs the house – everyone loves him.

He is a true hit and is a real example of true Texas dancehall music. He is still THE TOMMY HOOKER BAND and you can catch him all over the state. It is apparent that no matter where Tommy calls home, his love of music is alive and well. He is excited about every show, big or small, and it is truly his way of life!
